I came to Canada unscheduled on June 3, 1977 as copilot of a Pakistan International Airlines B747 in distress over the Atlantic, landing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, instead of John F. Kennedy, New York. Later in 1994, I arrived as an immigrant and settled in Ontario.
I passed the school certificate examination from a Pakistan Air Force institution but did not go into the service. However, I did fly gliders at Sargodha and earned my ‘Wings’. While preparing for graduation in science from Forman Christian College in Lahore, I applied to join the national airline on seeing a newspaper advertisement. Through a series of tests which also included aptitude, I made it into the PIA Flying Training Academy. The rest is history and that is really the only life I have known including instruction on the aircraft flight simulator.
